Transfer, Credit, and Admissions Policies
General Policies for all transfer credits
- The registrar evaluates all requests for transfer credit.
- Transfer credit is only awarded for high school level courses.
- No more than 1.0 credit will be recorded on the student's transcript for each course, even if the course is taken in different schools.
Public high school (or other accredited school) credits
- Virginia Virtual School recognizes accreditations from:
- CITA- Commission on International and Trans-regional Accreditation
- NCA - North Central Association
- SACS - Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
- WASC - Western Association of Schools and Colleges
- NEASC - New England Association of Schools and Colleges
- MSA - Middle States Association
- NCPSA- National Council of Private School Accreditation
- IB - International Baccalaureate
- Transfer credits are accepted for all courses on transcripts from public high schools.
- Credits are transferred with the letter grade awarded by the previous school.
- Students pursuing a diploma must complete one credit of English 12 and and one credit of another core course* through Virginia Virtual School.
Course credit from non-accredited sources
- Transfer credit is not awarded for Science courses.
- Transfer credit may be awarded for Math courses if the student earns a passing grade in the next sequential Math course from Virginia Virtual School.
- Transfer credit may be awarded in English courses if the student earns a passing grade in the next sequential English course from Virginia Virtual School.
- Transfer credits are recorded with a grade of "Pass;" no letter grade will be recorded.
- Students pursuing the General Diploma must complete at least 6 credits from Virginia Virtual School, including English 11, English 12, and two other core courses.*
- Students pursuing the College Prep Diploma must complete at least 6 credits from Virginia Virtual School, including English 11, English 12, Algebra 2, Chemistry, and 0.5 credit of Social Studies.
*Core course subjects are English, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
Admissions, refund, and withdrawal policies
- Virginia Virtual School admits students without regard to race, sex, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or color.
- Virginia Virtual School retains the right to refuse enrollment or re-enrollment to any student whom the Registrar believes will not benefit from, or work well within, the Virginia Virtual School educational system.
- The enrollment fee (less a $125 administrative fee) can be refunded if a student withdraws in writing within 10 days of enrollment.
- No reduction or refund of fees is given in the case of student non-performance or lack of course completion.
- A student may withdraw from Virginia Virtual School upon written notification to the registrar. Incomplete course work is not considered a cancellation of enrollment.
- A student enrolled in an individual course may transfer to the Virginia Virtual School Diploma Program. If the conversion is made within one month of the individual course enrollment, then the individual course enrollment fee may be used as credit toward the Diploma Program enrollment fee.
